The UEFA Super Cup is a match that passes many Irish fans by, but this year there will be Irish interest in the event for the first time since 2008.
League of Ireland referee Damien McGraith will assist Scotland's William Collum in Tblisi for the game against Barcelona and Sevilla.
McGraith has lots of experience refereeing in European ties and has also taken charge of FAI Cup finals, but this is surely his most high profile assignment.
League of Ireland referee Rob Rogers was one of the first to tweet his congratulations to his colleague.
Massive congratulations to Damien McGraith on his appointment to the UEFA Super Cup Final. Phenomenal achievement against all odds.
