"They're turning their intensity on each other' | John Brewin on Klopp and Guardiola

If you are to compare Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola's rivalry to Ferguson and Wenger, they look like best buddies.

As we saw though with Guardiola's recent remarks about Sadio Mane, they tend to get at each other in more subtle ways.

Speaking on Tuesday's OTB AM, football journalist John Brewin said the pressure of the title race seems to be getting to the Catalonian coach.

"The way that Pep Guardiola drives himself and there is that thing that he doesn't eat on the day of a game.

"Look at the way he kicked off at John Stones when he didn't have his gear on the other day.

"There is that point it seems where he will burnout and if anyone is going to burn him out at the moment it could be Liverpool," Brewin stated.

The rivalry is not as explosive as others but with Klopp and Guardiola there is still some niggle there, according to Brewin

Driven managers

"Last season it did seem to be reasonably sporting and it wasn't a Fergie vs Wenger situation at all, it was probably the best title race since back in those days.

"Certain theatre of wars have now opened between the two of them and then you have got this situation where players are seen to dive, it is something you can pick on," the football writer said.

Brewin feels that one of the reasons that Klopp seems to get under Guardiola's skin is because of how alike they are.

"I think with Klopp he is quite similar to Guardiola and I think maybe that is it. Both are very driven people, both of them have a finite span as managers.

"Could we see Klopp at Liverpool in five years? Probably not because of the intensity with which he drives himself.

"So they're essentially turning the intensity that they have on each other at the moment, and more of it I say," Brewin said.
