'Van Gaal would love a right-footed version of Daley Blind'

Pat Nevin believes more players like Daley Blind at Manchester United will help manager Louis van Gaal to adapt his game-plans.

The former Ajax player can slot into midfield, full-back and central defence competently and tonight ex-Chelsea midfielder Nevin feels he is the perfect template for Van Gaal's squad.

"It's great to have a player like that. He gives you a million options. You can adapt everything around him. He'll do a good and acceptable job absolutely anywhere. He's 100 per cent tailor-made for Van Gaal's team. [Van Gaal] just needs a bit more like him. You'd really like to have a right-footed version of him and maybe Carrick's the closest he's got to that," said Pat on Off The Ball tonight.

Meanwhile, he does not think Manchester City are consistent when it comes to giving their all, as the Sky Blues slumped to another poor result, this time against Burnley.

Pat also talked about some of the issues surrounding the current Sunderland squad, and how being a one-club town means certain things do not emerge unlike other cities.

"When I was at Everton, the things that were kept under wraps there were unbelievable, absolutely incredible. There were drinking cultures involved in those clubs and I don't think anyone would hide that. The clubs had some level of control over some areas of the media, so it just didn't get out," he said.
