WATCH: 20 years ago today, Jack Charlton resigned as Ireland manager

Twenty years ago today, the most successful period in Irish football came to an end when Jack Charlton resigned as Ireland manager.

The 1966 World Cup winner led Ireland to two World Cups and a European Championship before stepping down in 1995 after ten years in charge.

His last game came in Anfield against The Netherlands on December 13th, 1995. Ireland played the Dutch in a one-off match to determine the last team to qualify for Euro 1996. Two goals from Patrick Kluivert helped the Guss Hiddink managed side advance

Charlton's period in charge ended with four losses in his last five games. The Euro 96 qualification attempt is still best remembered for a 0-0 away loss in Vaduz against Liechtenstein.
