WATCH: A rediscovered ad shows how scared the GAA were of Italia '90

The summer of 1990 was a worrying time for the GAA.

Italia '90 took centre stage in May and June. Ireland were taking part in their first World Cup and the general public were focusing on the events in Cagliari, Palermo, Bari and Rome were taking centre stage.

In what can only be described on a strange attack on other sports, the GAA ran an ad on the day of Ireland's last group game against the Netherlands. It shows the differences between the gaelic games and other sports that were popular in Ireland at the time including basketball and football.

"What sports net more excitement than basketball, score more than soccer, have more conversations than rugby and less talk than American football? Hear your heart beat. Follow your team to victory."

Could we see the GAA do something similar this summer during Euro 2016?
