WATCH: Atletico out of La Liga running while real keeps Madrid's hopes alive

Atletico Madrid's hopes of a second La Liga title in three years were dashed as they lost out to Levante and Barcelona routed Espanyol today.

A last minute winner from former Manchester United strike Giuseppe Rossi consigned Atleti to a 2-1 defeat, ending their hopes of pipping Barcelona or Real Madrid to the title.

It started promisingly for the Champions League finalists as Fernando Torres rolled back the year with an excellent chip.

However, strikes from Victor Casadesus and Rossi mean that Atletico sit three points off the top with one game to play, and with a far inferior goal difference to the top two.

Barcelona were afforded the opportunity to increase their goals tally and they duly took it as they hit five past Espanyol at the Nou Camp.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring early on before Luis Suarez bagged a brace at the beginning of the second half before Rafinha and Neymar got in on the act late on.

The result means Barca just need one more win to secure consecutive titles and a sixth in eight years.

Cristiano Ronaldo ensure that the title race will go down to the wire as he bagged a double against Valencia to leave Real one point behind the league leaders.

Its an 11th straight league win for Zinedine Zidane's side as they moved above city rivals and Champions League final opponents Atletico.

Ronaldo's brace sandwiched a Karim benzema strike, while Andre Gomes and Rodrigo scored for Valencia, with the latter being sent off in the 83rd minute.
