Bosnia & Herzegovina took on Greece in the qualifiers for the World Cup on Sunday night, and Edin Dzeko earned himself an early bath in a very bizarre way.
The Roma striker pounced on a defensive mistake to make his way into the box and try to create a scoring opportunity, but he was forced wide by Kyriakos Papadopoulos and eventually brought down outside the area. At that point, the two got involved in a confrontation as Dzeko lay on the ground, in which Papadopolous ended up with his pants around his ankles.
In fairness to Dzeko, he was provoked by the fact that Papadopoulos reached down and, shall we say, got involved in a very intimate area on his person, à la Vinne Jones.
In response, Dzeko decided that he would reciprocate, and ended up pulling Papadopoulos' shorts down, in what will surely be one of the strangest red cards that the former Manchester City striker will earn in his career.
The confrontation between the two players saw a number of others getting involved, including the staff on the sidelines, and both players ended up being sent off - Dzeko got a second yellow while Papadopolous was shown a straight red.
With both sides reduced to 10, Greece managed to find a late equaliser in stoppage time through Georgios Tzavelas, as the game finished 1-1.
Speaking after the match, Dzeko was clearly unhappy with having been sent off, saying: "The referee says I started the whole thing, but I was the only one ending on the floor, so how could I have started it?
"I feel like we lost 3-0. Greece didn't deserve this point. They didn't even deserve a 1-0 loss, they deserved to lose 4-0."
That result leaves them in third place in their group, directly behind Greece who are currently three points ahead of them. Roberto Martinez's Belgium side lead the way with a maximum 12 points from their four games, and just one goal conceded.
