WATCH: Italian striker is the first to be shown a "green card" for good behaviour

Black cards have become a regular feature in Gaelic Football, and it looks like a green card will become the norm in Italian football matches.

The card, which was introduced at the start of the season, was shown for the first time last week in a Serie B game between Vicenza and Virtus Entella. Vicenza striker Cristian Galano was the man to make history.

Green cards were introduced into Italian football for sportsmanship and good behaviour. Galano was awarded the card for telling the referee that no Virtus Entella player touched the ball when a corner was incorrectly given.

According to Goal.com, Serie A President Andrea Abodi admitted that the cards are largely symbolic. "It could be something very simple", Abodi said. The important thing is to recognise it when a professional does something exemplary."

The player who gets the most green cards by the end of the season will be given a yet unannounced prize. Advantage Galano.
