WATCH: Pirlo and Villa combine to show MLS fans their worth

New York City FC are into their second season in MLS and things have not gone quite to plan so far for the team.

Patrick Viera took charge of the side at the start of the season in a bid to improve the team's fortunes after a disappointing first season. Earlier this month, the team lost at home to local rivals New York Red Bulls. The 7-0 defeat is the heaviest suffered by any team so far this season in the league.

David Villa, Frank Lampard and Andrea Pirlo were all brought to the club to try and add some star power to the team's opening seasons. With the exception of club captain Villa, the other two player have been a disappointment in Yankee Stadium.

On Sunday night, Pirlo finally showed what he is capable of, linking up with Villa, before the Spanish World Cup-winner scored the team's second goal against Orlando City.  The game eventually finished 2-2, with the home side conceding two late goals.

Pirlo was omitted from Italy's Euro 2016 squad so will be located in New York for the whole season, with no international distractions. Hopefully, he will be able to link up with Villa on a more regular basis throughout the summer.
