The news that Rivaldo is making a comeback at the age of 43 is a reminder of what Brazilian football could produce.

Some are old enough to remember the days of Pele and Garrincha, later generations were captivated by the 1982 World Cup team and for most of us, we were lucky enough to see Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho lead Brazil to glory in 2002 with one of the greatest front threes you will ever see.

But back to Rivaldo. It's just over a decade since the former Barcelona, AC Milan and Deportivo attacking midfielder played at the highest level of European football and now is the time to remind ourselves of some of the finest moments from his peak years.

In the 2000-01 season, he was crucial for Barcelona as they squeezed into the final Champions League place, with his hat-trick (including this bicycle kick) against Valencia helping the Catalans win 3-2 and pip the latter on goal difference:

But let's not quibble about it. The bicycle kick should not mask the quality of the other goals which made up that hat-trick:

A scorer of eight World Cup goals across 1998 and 2002, he managed over 30 international goals in his career, and here they are in all their glory:

Unfortunately, he also has an Oscar to his name after this bit of simulation against Turkey in 2002, which got an opponent sent off:
