WATCH: Should Irish international Harry Arter be in the English squad?

Harry Arter has played three times for Ireland. Sky Sports duo Jeff Stelling and Paul Merson believe the same Harry Arter deserves a call-up to the England squad.

The Bournemouth midfielder has had an impressive start to the season, with even Jack Wilshere praising the former non-league player.

"He is definitely up there with some of the midfielders I’ve played with," said Wilshere.

"I have played with some top midfielders but it says a lot about a player when you are not at a big club like Arsenal and you are putting in performances like that."

"If he wants to, I’m sure he could go onto bigger clubs. But I’m sure he is enjoying his time at Bournemouth - the fans love him, the manager loves him and he’s got everyone’s respect at the club."

Wilshere's quotes were mentioned by Stelling and Merson when discussing the 26-year-old.

JS: Gareth Southgate names his first England squad this week. Is there the remotest chance that Harry Arter could be in it? And if not, why not?

PM: Exactly. Why not? He gets on the ball. He plays. He's a good footballer. A very, very good footballer. He's got loads of energy. Something's got to change with this England squad. What's the point in just picking the same team? If you pick the same players, me and you might aswell go and do it... Give these players a chance

JS: Jack Wilshere said Harry Arter is right up there with any of the midfielders he's played with.

PM: He's played with some top, top drawer ones. It's the problem of where these players play... They're playing at Bournemouth or Watford like Troy Deeney. Will they get picked for England playing with them teams? For me, it's unfair.

You can watch the video below, and see the duo's comments on Arter from the six-minute mark.
