Paul McGrath spoke this evening at the Off the Ball roadshow in The Helix this evening about his career and games against England.
As part of our Ford Sporting Moments series, McGrath spoke about Ireland's Euro 92 qualifier in Wembley which finished 1-1.
The Dubliner claimed Ireland should have won three points that night stating, "we should have beat them" and said Ray Houghton missed an excellent chance to win the game.
He also spoke about the games between the two teams in Euro 88 and Italia 90. "The first time we beat them" in 1988 was the time the team got respect from the English. McGrath also spoke about the face he claimed could have won the game in 1988 only for the excellent performances of Packie Bonner.
McGrath revealed that he injured his knee early in the game after taking a shot, and tried to come off at half time. "I touched the ball about four times in the second half"
When asked by Ger if the 1990 team was Ireland's best, McGrath agreed and spoke about the game in Italia 90.
He spoke about playing Paul Gascoigne and mentioned Jack Charlton's philosophy about shocking other nations.
