Who are the next big things from South America?

Traditionally South America's U20 Championship is a feast for scouts looking for the continent's next bright young thing.

Previous starlets who have increased their standing at the biennial tournament have included Neymar, Alexis Sanchez, Radamel Falcao and Javier Mascherano just to name a few.

This year's championship is no different as BBC South American football correspondent Tim Vickery told Off The Ball.

"It is magic getting that first glimpse. Messi in 2005 is the most extraordinary example," Tim explained, reminiscing about Messi's brilliance, even at 17.

"We all knew we were in the presence of something special. It was obvious we were at the birth of something special."

Although Giovanni Simeone, the son of Atletico Madrid manager Diego, was top scorer in an Argentina team that won this year's championship, Tim believes there are doubts about the striker and that he may be a "rabbit killer" who benefited from the chances created by Atletico Madrid's Angel Correa - a player who has recovered from a heart problem.

Brazil only finished fourth and Tim described them as absolutely "terrible" and still hinge on their counter-attacking strengths, while Uruguay have many interesting prospects.
