Who are the winners and losers from the Champions League group draw?

The Champions League groups have been revealed and as always each group has some major talking points.

So here are the Premier League teams who can be delighted with the puzzle they have been posed with, as well as those who might hope for the draw to be done again.

The Winners

Manchester United booked their place in the group stages by beating Club Brugge last night and on paper, they have been given a soft landing back to European football's elite competition.

They face a weakened PSV Eindhoven (United had something to do with that weakening as the signed the Dutch champions' best player Memphis Depay in the summer) as well as Russia's CSKA Moscow and a Wolfsburg side, who appear to be about to lose their own star player in Kevin de Bruyne to Manchester City.

Louis van Gaal won't have an easy ride, but United should be confident of finishing in the top two of Group B.

Chelsea's status as Pot 1 incumbents meant they avoided some of the bigger clubs and were landed with Jose Mourinho's old club FC Porto as the toughest set of fixtures.

Otherwise, the Blues should not have too much trouble getting past Israel's Maccabi Tel Aviv or Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kyiv, and should top the group with ease.

The Losers (to an extent)

Manchester City have experienced some very tough groups down through the years and this season is no different with some tricky fixtures to come.

Manuel Pellegrini's side will have to overcome last season's finalists Juventus as well Europa League holders Sevilla and a decent Bundesliga side in Borussia Monchengladbach.

Juve have lost some key players in Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez, but have also made additions of their own like like promising Argentine forward Paolo Dybala and ex-Bayern and Atletico centre-forward Mario Mandzukic.

Meanwhile Sevilla have done more good business this summer. The Spanish side's additions include striker Fernando Llorente who arrives from Juventus and promising Ukrainian winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.

City have started getting as far as the first knockout stage in recent seasons and have started this season in the right manner, so should be in the mix for qualification. But they would have wished for an easier introduction to this season's competition.

Arsenal also face a challenge as they have been paired with Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich. Guardiola's Barcelona knocked Arsene Wenger's side out of the Champions League in 2010 and 2011, while Juup Heynckes Bayern did the same in 2013.

Champions League regulars Olympiakos nearly knocked Manchester United out of the last-16 in David Moyes' only year and also beat 2014 and 2015 runners-up Juventus and Atletico Madrid on their home patch in last season's group stages.

Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia are the fourth team in Arsenal's group. Overall the Gunners should progress behind Bayern, but could be stung by Olympiakos in particular if they have the type of off-day which occasionally afflicts them. Significantly, Arsenal have lost on their last two visits to the Greek side in 2011-12 and 2012-13, which is not a good omen.

Which one gets to be called the Group of Death?

Manchester City's group fits the bill, but Group A which pits Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and knockout round regulars Shakhtar Donetsk together would have something to say about that.

Barcelona's group could also be interesting if Roma and Bayer Leverkusen raise their level, but does not quite reach the status of the aforementioned groups.
