Wolves appoint Walter Zenga as their new manager

Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Walter Zenga as their head coach after sacking Kenny Jackett on Friday night.

Zenga, who played in goals with Inter Milan for 12 years, has managed no less than 15 teams including spells at New England Revolution, Steaua Bucharest, Red Star Belgrade, Palermo and Sampdoria.

He will take up his role on Monday and will be in attendance when Wolves play Swansea on Saturday.

Jeff Shi, the club's new main director says he is delighted to welcome the former Italian international to the club,

"He has an excellent track record both as a player and as a coach, and a wealth of experience he can bring to his new role at Wolves. Walter is a hugely passionate personality who lives for football and is fiercely determined to succeed in everything that he does," he said.

“We are looking forward to working with him, and supporting him in the shared aim of trying to help Wolves achieve promotion back to the Premier League.”

The move comes just hours after Jackett was relieved of his duties despite being given assurances as late as last Monday that he would be given a chance to prove himself to the new owners of the club.
