World Cup Qualifier Round-up: Ireland's group rivals Austria and Wales battle to draw

The four favourites in Ireland's group are all on four points after the second matchday in 2018 World Cup qualifier Group D.

With Ireland grinding out a win over Georgia, there was also an eye on the clash between Austria and Wales in Vienna as well as Serbia's trip to Moldova.

Joe Allen's excellent early goal gave Wales a good platform but they had to settle for a 2-2 draw in Austria as two goals from Stoke's Marko Arnautovic cancelled out his Potters team-mates' opener and a Kevin Wimmer own goal.

Meanwhile, Serbia bounced back from their opening 2-2 draw against Ireland in Belgrade last month and registered a 3-0 win at the Boys in Green's next opponents Moldova.

Chelsea's Branislav Ivanovic and Southampton's Dusan Tadic added to an opening goal by Filip Kostic.

Elsewhere, Daniele De Ross's late penalty earned a 1-1 draw against Spain in Group G.

The Spanish dominated possession but only had Vitolo's goal to show for it.
