It's been quite some time since Armagh contested an Ulster final.

Well, this weekend could see them bridge an 11 year gap. But they'll have to beat Cavan to get there and after that, Donegal or Tyrone await the winner.

Those two along with Monaghan have won all the provincial crowns since 2008.

Former Armagh footballer Aaron Kernan joined us to preview his county's pivotal game.

He was there when they beat Fermanagh in the 2008 replayed decider and touched on the drought.

"It's even been a while since we've been in an Ulster semi-final," he said.

"And there was always that thing hanging over them that they hadn't won a game in Ulster. That wouldn't really bother me a huge amount. I suppose, if you're younger that might seep into you a little bit more."

Good Position

Kernan is encouraged by the fact that there's more potential left in the Armagh tank.

"I think we have a lot of scope for improvement and I think couple that with the confidence from just getting over the line against Down, I'd like to think we'll be in a good position going into this weekend," he said.

He also gave his thoughts on what's been different with the team so far this year.

"I think Monaghan losing the night before would've been a big thing," he said.

"Because it just opened up that whole side of Ulster. Everyone would've envisaged definitely Monaghan coming through on that side of the draw. Then it was a toss-up between Tyrone and Donegal [on the other side].

"That was a huge incentive to make sure that we got to this weekend's game. Because ourselves and Cavan are probably a similar level. Granted, they've been going up and down to Division 1 where we haven't been. We've been going between Division 2 to 3. Championship contests, there hasn't been much between us. They always seem to be fairly even. So getting the win the last day was huge. I think we've got lots of room for improvement."
