Head Coach of DCU-Mercy Womens Basketball team, Mark Ingle, has won the Philips Lighting Manager of the Month for January after helping the college complete an incredible treble at the 2018 Hula Hoops National Cup finals weekend.

DCU-Mercy defeated the 5-in-a-row chasing Ambassador UCC Glanmire by the narrowest of margins 72-71pts  to win their first National Cup title since 2011. The two teams produced a thrilling decider, with the lead changing hands 12 times in 40 minutes.

DCU and Ingle crowned a superb weekend of success as they took the U18 and U20 cups and National Cup treble.

After the game Ingle admitted his surprise when the senior team overcame the Cork women by just a single point.

"In fact, I thought the game was level and then they all started shouting and screaming and I looked up at the board and realised we had won! I had been planning the next play, telling the players where to go!"

Mark Ingle receives his award Michelle Lynch, Philips Lighting
