Graeme McDowell has won the Saudi International at Royal Greens in impressive fashion, shooting a final round of 70 to win by two shots.

The Portrush star ended the tournament on 12 under par, two ahead of American Dustin Johnson.

It was a first victory on the European Tour for McDowell in five and a half years.

G-Mac had hit previous rounds of 64, 68, and 66 to set the foundations for his win in King Abdullah City, with big birdies on the 14th and 15th holes on his final day crucial for getting him over the line.

Johnson hit a 67 on his final day to keep the pressure on, while for large parts of day four it was Frenchman Victor Dubuisson who looked the most likely to compete for the win.

Dubuisson, who was a Ryder Cup playing mate of McDowell's in 2014, played the final round with the Antrim man.

It was an 11th European Tour win in all for McDowell, and he said he was delighted to get over the line.

"It's special. I've been working hard the last year and a half. I want to be back up there one more time just to be able to play against these guys.

"The game of golf is in such great shape, there are so many great players in the world, it's so exciting to be a top player in the world and I want to be back up there again."

2010 US Open champion McDowell mastered the windy conditions at the Middle Eastern course - as the win makes him a European Tour champion in three different decades.

Phil Mickelson is another man who will be very pleased with his performances across the European Tour event, shooting a 67 today to end in a tie for fourth place on nine-under, alongside Belgium's Thomas Pieters and Gavin Green of Malaysia.

Shane Lowry ended on five-under - tied for thirteenth after a 69 in his fourth round.

Northern Ireland's Cormac Sharvin had missed the halfway cut mark.
