Pep Guardiola welcomes 'fantastic' Leicester into Premier League title race

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has praised opposite number Brendan Rodgers for his work in helping Leicester City overtake his side in the Premier League title race.

The Foxes have lost just two games this season and are the only team in the division to have kept their goals conceded column to single figures (9).

Guardiola is not surprised that it is not just his team and Liverpool in the mix for the title this season.

"I think it’s typical for this league, through the whole history, that there are many, many teams involved [in the title race]," said Guardiola.

"The last year there has just been one or two, but in this one, Leicester is there because they are doing incredibly well.

"Since last season, when Brendan Rodgers took over the team, immediately they changed the way they play and they [got] the results.

"We knew it when we played them in the last game of the last season and they continue doing really well. They are a fantastic team."

City have the opportunity to reclaim second spot behind table-toppers Liverpool if they can beat Burnley at Turf Moor tomorrow ahead of Leicester's home game against Watford on Wednesday.

Guardiola has urged his players to forget about the teams above them ahead of the clash with the Clarets.

"They have to believe in a win tomorrow, that is a fact," said Guardiola. "In the situation that we are in, we cannot think too much about the [teams] that are in front.

"So I think we have to think about what we have to do to win the games and play quite similar to how we played in our [previous] games, especially the last one against Newcastle or the last 20, 25 minutes against Chelsea.

"They were better than the other ones, we played good, especially in the second half. [We have to] try to be...the chances that we have and the few we concede, to be more solid in these departments and we will improve."
