Investigation launched into alleged abuse received by Simon Zebo

Ulster say they will 'robustly investigate any complaints' after Simon Zebo claimed he was abused by fans.

The winger was on the receiving end of a negative reaction from the crowd. He was booed after scoring a try for Racing 92 in the 26-22 loss to Ulster in the Champions Cup at Kingspan Stadium last Saturday.

The former Munster man tweeted after the game: "I hope my ears deceived me with some comments directed my way from the crowd. #NotOn Django wins in the end."

Some took the reference to suggest the abuse was racist - Django Unchained is a Quentin Tarantino film about an African-American slave.

European Champions Cup organisers told RTE that they had "not received a formal complaint from Racing 92 regarding any alleged case of verbal abuse of one of the club's players".

"EPCR is in contact with both Ulster Rugby and Racing 92, and will be making no further comment at this point."

No formal complaint from Racing 92 in 'alleged case of verbal abuse' aimed at Simon Zebo

Zebo was born and raised in Cork and has represented Ireland 35 times. His mother Lynda is a Cork native while his father Arthur hails from Martinique, a Caribbean island that’s part of the Lesser Antilles which is an overseas region of France.

Ulster released a statement on Sunday and said they would be launching their own probe.

"Ulster Rugby condemns all forms of abuse and will work with the relevant parties to robustly investigate any complaints received."

EPRC say they have yet to receive a formal complaint from Racing 92 over the 'alleged verbal abuse' aimed at Zebo. The 28-year-old has yet to clarify his comments or disclose the nature of the verbal abuse he allegedly received.
