Munster Hurling Final between Limerick and Tipperary set to be a sellout

There may be concerns over the attendance for the Leinster senior football championship football final between Dublin and Meath at Croke Park on Sunday, but the Munster Hurling Final between Limerick and Tipperary on June 30th is expected to be a sellout.

There is a vigorous hunt on for tickets for the Gaelic Grounds, which will host the showdown involving the All Ireland champions and a revitalised Tipperary team that won all 4 matches in the round robin.

The last of those was a 1-22 to 0-21 victory for the Premier county over the Shannonsiders.

It is heartening to learn the news that around 44,000 tickets will be sold.

With both sides already in the All Ireland series, there may have been the feeling that one of the traditional events of the sporting calendar was to lose its sparkle. Not so. The Munster Hurling Final still means a lot.

Tipperary will be without injured pair Patrick 'Bonner' Maher and Cathal Barrett for the match, but Limerick are expected to have skipper Declan Hannon available. He's been recovering from a groin strain.

Limerick last won a Munster title in 2013, when the green and white saw off Cork in the decider at the Gaelic Grounds.

Tipperary's last provincial win was in 2016 when they had 21 points to spare over Waterford, a drubbing which would propel them towards All Ireland success.

The last Munster Hurling Final involving Limerick and Tipperary was in 2001 when the blue and gold won by 2 points in Cork.

Limerick's last win over Tipperary in a final was back in 1996.
