Shane Lowry continues to lead the Race to Dubai

Shane Lowry remains top of the Race to Dubai standings after his 11th-place finish at the BMW PGA Championship.

The Open champion was bogey-free across his last 39 holes to end at 10-under-par at Wentworth where Danny Willett claimed the title.

Former Masters winner Willett claimed the seventh victory of his career, ending three shots ahead of Irish Open champion Jon Rahm at 20-under.

The Englishman had slipped to 462nd in the world after missing the cut at Wentworth last year and he's relieved to be back among the trophies.

"There were some dark places and we were in a bit of turmoil," Willett admitted. "We have reworked everything with everyone at home helping out and it's extra special when you are then able to produce special things.

"This week has been one of those fairytales to win on home soil. I've been close at the Open and had a couple of good chances here before and the crowd weren't going to let me throw it away.

"That's now my seventh win on Tour and every single time I've won they have been pretty stellar events against pretty stellar fields. Obviously there's going to be a lot of questions around the Ryder Cup - I might be the guy that plays every Ryder Cup away from home, which will be great fun for me."

Rory McIlroy had rounds of 65 and 67 at the weekend to secure a share of 9th.

Lowry is aiming to have a strong finish to his season:

"Four weeks off coming into a big tournament, tough golf course, I didn't know what to expect, I was happy to get through to the weekend.

"But I stayed patient all week and thankfully that patience paid off at the end."

"I feel my game is in a decent place mentally and my confidence is pretty good.

"So I feel I can give the Race to Dubai a good shot towards the end of the year."
