Graham Taylor on surprise that foreign players not stemming PL's Champions League decline

It was another interesting weekend in the Premier League at both ends of the table and today on Off The Ball, Graham Taylor and Ray Houghton joined us on the show to review all the action

Focusing on Manchester City, who beat West Brom today, but were also knocked out of Europe like every Premier League side, former England manager Taylor revealed his surprise that English teams are not doing well in Europe despite investing heavily in some of the best foreign players in the world.

"There have been spells and we seem to be in another one. What is interesting is the accusation that there are so many foreign players now in our game. Well, they're also taking part in the Champions League," he said.

"I'm not anti taking foreign players but I'm just making the point that we're not being successful in the Champions League and yet the teams that aren't successful, they have the most foreign players in their side and I find that surprising because if we're turning our backs on our English players and then we're looking to sign players from abroad, then it's right that people should expect us to do well in the Champions League. It certainly hasn't happened this season. It concerns me a little bit."      

Taylor and Houghton also looked ahead to the big game between Liverpool and Manchester United tomorrow:
