Tottenham are "well equipped" under rejuvenated Jose | Dion Fanning

Tottenham Hotspur sit top of the Premier League following their 2-0 win against Manchester City at the weekend with their manager Jose Mourinho looking rejuvenated in the role.

Goals from Giovani Lo Celso and Son Heung-Min in either half handed Spurs their fourth victory in-a-row with City boss Pep Guardiola admitting his side struggled to break the North Londoners down.

Tottenham's form, just over a year after sacking Mauricio Pochettino, has their supporters now hoping for a first league title since 1961.

"It's only nine games in but something does seem to have changed," football writer Dion Fanning said of Spurs' start to the campaign on The Football Show on tonight's Off The Ball.

"It was a classic Mourinho performance and a classic Mourinho performance against Pep Guardiola. That's what's interesting about him right now, that he did it again and the idea that he had done this to Pep again contributed to his satisfaction.

"If Spurs can do what they did against Manchester City and counter-attack and have Kane and Son there to finish it off, they really are well equipped."

2018 champions City have only three wins from their opening eight games and sit 13th in the Premier League. With Sergio Aguero currently sidelined through injury, Guardiola's side have also struggled for goals in the first three months of the season.

"The Aguero factor is a huge factor," Fanning added of City's struggles. "But there a lot of other metrics that suggest that it is a team who have just run out of gas in lots of ways.

"Guardiola's new contract is the bewildering thing, to see if Pep can re-build this side and it does need a huge amount of work.

"It's asking him to do something which he's never done before and it's a very big question.
