Ulster's Gilroy handed 4-week ban following Scarlets sin binning

Ulster winger Craig Gilroy has been banned for four weeks following an illegal challenge on Scarlets winger, Tom Rogers.

Gilroy was sent to the sin-bin midway through the first half of Ulster's 27-15 bonus point win at Kingspan Stadium last week. Rogers was forced off through injury after Gilroy's shoulder met his head while making a tackle.

The 30-year old was cited by United Rugby Championship officials earlier this week, and had to face a disciplinary panel.

The panel deemed Gilroy's actions to be reckless and warranted a red card, not a yellow.

They took his previous record into account, but was not entitled to have any of his four-week ban shaved off as Gilroy "did not accept that the act of foul play warranted a red card."

Gilroy wasn't considered for Friday night's visit of Connacht to Kingspan Stadium, but will also miss their next three United Rugby Championship fixtures with Dragons (a), Cardiff (h) and the visit of Leinster to Belfast.

He'll next be free to play for his province in their mini tour to South Africa from the end of March, when they play DHL Stormers and Vodacom Bulls.
