"Rudderless United" need to get back on the road without Solskjaer | Damien Delaney

A goalless draw with Wolves in the FA Cup on Saturday is just the latest example of Manchester United's inability to breakdown weaker teams.

The Ole Gunnar Solskjaer era will be defined in many ways, but perhaps above all else for his side's peculiar habit of beating teams better than them and faltering against those below them.

Countless Manchester United teams have relied on counter-attacking but never has one struggled for so long to breakdown opponents while in possession.

Speaking on Off The Ball's Saturday Football Show, former Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney said Manchester United needed to get its house in order, starting with Solskjaer's future.

"The longer Manchester United leave that fella in charge the longer the road back is going to be for them," the former Ireland international proclaimed.

"They are rudderless at the moment. They are lunging from a great result to five bad performances, to a great result to four bad performances, for a club like United it's not good enough.

"They need to get a manager in there who will grab the whole club, galvanize it and turn that ship around and point it in the right direction again. This guy doesn't have the personality for it, he doesn't have the persona to really take this club where it needs to go.

"He was a good short term replacement after Mourinho because all the players seemed to have fallen out with Mourinho and all the players felt like they had just gotten out of prison so to speak.

"They all had that initial burst where they all thought Ole is great but after a while, you need some substance from a manager. When you lose a game of football the players need to know that the manager knows what he is doing and Ole isn't that.

"He was a good caretaker, a good stop-gap and the sooner they go get Pochettino the sooner Manchester United will get back to their greater glories."
