Aaron Kernan's not keen on Fermanagh's style

While many eyes will be on Division 1 in the final round of the Allianz Football Leagues, the clash of Fermanagh and Meath is also worth following.

They're part of a clutch of of teams with a chance of promotion from Division 2.

It's all set-up for a mouth-watering weekend of action.

Ex-Armagh footballer Aaron Kernan joined us to preview the top two divisions.

But one thing he homed in was Fermanagh's low-scoring games.

Style

"It's just a style I don't like and I've never played," he said.

"I don't know how much enjoyment I would get out of it. I have to say last week was a disappointment and I was at the game in Crossmaglen when they were playing Armagh.

"Armagh were playing with the wind the first half and there was a point in it. It could have gone either way but I have to say, this was a strong breeze blowing right into the town goals.

"Fermanagh had the wind in the second half and they scored a point. What I couldn't understand was I saw them warming up and I could see Sean Quigley shooting into the opposite goals and kicking points from 35 metres out in the warm-up, into the strong breeze."

Kernan went on to discuss what he saw a second half that saw forward players filtered back.

"They were getting a lot of men behind the ball. They're really well set up and their communication's really good. But ultimately they were just not getting enough people to attack. Everybody was coming back to the middle of the field," he said.

"Sean Quigley was coming back, even in the first half. It's not that you're shirking the work-load for the marquee forwards but they need to be fresh as well. They're the boys who are supposed to put the ball over the bar. They're the boys supposed to win the games.

"Ultimately, what you're doing is wasting the energy of a man who you still need to get back up the field to score points for you."
