"I'd like to see him fight Paulie Malignaggi" - Andy Lee on Conor McGregor

Former Middleweight Champion Andy Lee joined Chris Fields, Kieran Cunningham and Tommy Martin on The Saturday Panel.

All the focus was on Conor McGregor as he attempts to hand Khabib Nurmagomedov his first loss in MMA and regain the UFC Lightweight title he was previously stripped of.

The bad blood between the pair has been evident in the build up which has seen interest in the fight grow as the bout approaches.

The Dubliner hasn't fought in the UFC since he beat Eddie Alvarez to become the first simultaneous two-division titleholder in November 2016.

He went on to box Floyd Mayweather in August 2017, losing by TKO in the 10th round.

Asked if he'd like to see McGregor back in the squared-circle, Lee said: "I'd like to see him fight Paulie Malignaggi - I wouldn't mind seeing that, just for the entertainment value.

"But, outside of that, I wouldn't fancy seeing him fight Mayweather again - I don't think there's an appetite for that," he added.

Whilst acknowledging his brilliance as an MMA fighter, Lee thinks the Irishman still has a bit to learn yet if he wanted to contend consistantley at World Title level in boxing, saying: "I would say he's got a long way to go in boxing, you know, to be at a good level, to be at that world level.

"But I think a fight with Malignaggi - he's well past his best as well (would be interesting)."
