"Maybe he'll take an international job" - Brian Kerr on Arsene Wenger

Former Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr thinks Arsene Wenger has earned some time off to go and enjoy the other things that life has to offer.

The Frenchman leaves Arsenal at the end of the season after 22 years at the helm and speaking to Off the Ball's Nathan Murphy about the situation at the Emirates, Kerr said: "He's been a remarkable manager, a remarkable man. It's interesting what he said the other day that his replacement will have to be prepared to dedicate his life to Arsenal and that's what he's done.

"I think he's done it to too much of an extreme and it's almost sad to look at him now and he's got to 68, I think, and you're going 'What else has happened in his life other than the brilliance of his football teams?'

"On a personal level, I would say that maybe it fulfilled him enough but you look at sir Alex and he has taken the last few years out and I think he has enjoyed the time and he's done other things.

"He has been on the book circuit and so on but he's also done other things - we've seen him at matches, we've seen him sitting back in the stand, not shouting and roaring and red-faced and fighting with officials or fighting with authority about decisions related to fixtures or whatever. We've seen a calmer man selling books, doing conferences, going to matches, going to races, whatever!

"We've seen a different side of him - time for him, time to spend time with his family, time to go and watch Darren's teams play...it has given him time to do some of the stuff you miss out on when you're a manager at that level and it's so intense.

"I think Arsene Wenger has earned that for himself - some time to do that. Maybe he'll take an international job and do it in that kind of way," he added.
