Pat Nevin on Liverpool's Salah concerns

In the end, Mo Salah was decisive for Liverpool against Tottenham.

It was his header that Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris parried into the feet of Toby Alderweireld, who bumped the ball into his own net.

But overall, Salah has not been as decisive as he was last season. The Egyptian has still managed 17 Premier League goals but not since the Bournemouth game two months ago.

In his stead, it's Sadio Mane who has scored many of the crucial goals.

Ex-Chelsea and Everton winger Pat Nevin joined us always on a Monday and gave us his analysis on Salah.

"If you compare to the rest of his career, he's having a very good season," said Nevin.

Half-assist

"As long as he keeps chipping in. But he almost got an assist for the winner so he's getting in the right positions. If you're not having the best of times, just keep on having an impact. Get into great areas. If it's a scruffy goal or a scruffy assist, it doesn't matter. It counts exactly the same, so he had that half-assist against Spurs and that was the major point in the game."

On Salah's more under-par form, he also added that the World Cup fitness hangover is an issue.

"I don't think he ever got that total sparkle back and I think he needs a real pre-season," said Pat.

"Maybe an entire summer off and you might see the best from him again next season."
