WATCH | Neil Warnock unleashes on the referee after Middlesborough loss

Neil Warnock was outraged by the official's performance in Middlesborough's 2-1 loss to Swansea City on Saturday afternoon.

The Boro' boss was furious with what he felt was a sustained poor performance from the team of officials throughout the game at the Liberty Stadium in Swansea.

"We have been let down by a team of officials who were not good enough today," Warnock said.

"I thought we were the best side on the pitch. I did not see them having many chances at all and we have been let down by poor officials really, nothing else."

Andre Ayew's late penalty decided the game for the Swans and Warnock was particularly irked by the decision to award the spot-kick.

"He [the referee] did guess for the penalty or somebody else told him. I think the fourth official gave it or something like that," Warnock continued.

"He is the nearest man to the penalty in the 90 whatever it is minute. If you are not sure you do not give it.

"They are all heroes. They all want celebrity status, don't they? It is wrong."

When asked if he had had a chance to speak to the referee or his linesman in the aftermath of the painful defeat, Warnock said it is impossible to speak thoroughly with the officials nowadays.

"You cannot speak to him. You can speak to them roughly when they are coming off but you are not allowed to speak to them after the game.

"They have got a cover, don't they? They stick for each other, don't they?"

It stands to reason that Warnock may face some sort of punishment for his outburst.

The long-time manager accepted as much while speaking with Sky Sports.

"Where do we go from here?

"How can I come on here and not get fined? I have got to be careful, haven't I? It is just the worst afternoon for many, many weeks really.

"We have had a few of these. You saw the penalty the other night at Stoke City. It was never a penalty in a million years."
