'We have bottled up a lot the past few years' | Galway captain Tracey Leonard

Disappointment is something the Galway's Ladies football team have gotten used to in recent years and captain Tracey Leonard thinks it is something they can use for this Sunday's All-Ireland final.

Having lost in the quarter-final in 2017 to Cork and losing in the semi-final to Dublin last year, they have made the next step in getting to the final.

Speaking to Off The Ball, Galway captain Tracey Leonard said the team has learnt from those previous defeats.

"I think we have bottled up a lot from the past few years.

"We've had a lot of mistakes made in the past and you bottle it up if for days that are going to come ahead. Hopefully, we can express that maybe on Sunday," she said.

In terms of their opponent in the final, she fully understands why Dublin have had so much success in recent years.

"We're under no illusions this is a formidable Dublin side and huge respect goes to them. They have been the standard-bearers for the last few years now.

Sustained dominance

"Look, no more than ourselves they were on the receiving end I suppose of hard losses before their dominance.

"Before that Cork had the dominance and you have to admire them and sometimes the clock does turn," the Galway centre-forward said.

With Galway winning the Camogie championship last Sunday, Leonard said there has been a great buzz in the county the past few weeks.

"It's exciting times and we haven't been to an All-Ireland since 2004.

"There has been great morale with the Camogie team winning the All-Ireland final this Sunday gone.

"I think it has really risen the profile in Galway of where Ladies GAA is at," Leonard said.
