Wrist injury forces Paul Dunne to miss European Tour Qualifying School

Paul Dunne has been forced to withdraw from this week's final stage of European Tour Qualifying School.

The Wicklow man, who lost his European Tour card last month, is struggling with an "ongoing wrist injury".

Dunne was previously a three-round leader at The Open has an amateur but he's endured a difficult 2019 campaign and surrendered his tour card after missing the cut at the Portugal Masters.

It left the 26-year-old in 118th place on the Race to Dubai standings, with those in the top 117 keeping their playing rights for 2020.

The former British Masters winner admits he may need surgery to rectify the issue.

“I won’t be playing this week,” Dunne told Irish Golf Desk's Brian Keogh.

“Have an ongoing wrist injury that’s gotten worse and I’m going to take some time to sort it out.”

It’s unclear how long he has been suffering with the injury and whether it will require surgery or simply needed rest and rehabilitation. I’m trying to get to the bottom of it."

Jonny Caldwell, Gavin Moynihan, Niall Kearney, Robin Dawson and Michael Hoey are all part of the field for the qualifying event which gets underway at Tarragona's Lumine Golf Club tomorrow.

The top 25 players will secure cards for next season's European Tour.
